Planet Manaan
General Information
Planet Manaan is an aquatic planet serving as the homeworld of the Selkath species and a host of other sea creatures. This water covered planet, the second planet in the Purshak system, is the only producer of the healing liquid known as kloto. As the majority of the planet is submerged, only one above surface city exists named Ahto. Much of the underwater planet remains unknown, even by the native Selkath.
History
The Selkath upon Manaan were once enslaved by the Rakata during the time of the Infinite Empire. These slaves were used to construct Star Forge, temples, and other buildings across the empire. The empire of the Rakata eventually collapsed, freeing the remaining slaves and the planet of Manaan.
After the enslavement of the Selkath civilization, the Selkath came to value independence. This new outlook drove the Selkath civilization to do whatever it took to stay neutral in all future Galactic conflicts. During the Jedi Civil war kloto came into high demand. To accommodate the exportation of the product the Selkath built the above surface city of Ahto.
Throughout the remaining years the Selkath have used their monopoly on the export of kloto as leverage in times of war. Rules have been established to prevent both the Republic and the Empire from forcing the Selkath into allegiance. Upon any threat of invasion the Selkath have sworn to destroy the kloto supply.
In the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Selkath have allowed the Hrakert Station to secretly be built along the Hrakert Rift. Unknown to the Empire the station serves as a kloto mining site for the Republic.
