General Information
The Jedi Order was an organization designed to keep peace in the galaxy. The Order believed in observing and maintaining a balance with the Force. Special emphasis was placed on the light side of the Force. The Jedi were one of the most well known groups associated with the Force. They were the also major defenders of the Republic.
Histoy
The Jedi Order was formed circa 25,000 BBY. The formation occurred upon the planet Tython among a group of philosophers, warriors, priests, and scientist who had gathered to study the Force. In the beginnings of the Order the Jedi members focused on developing a better understanding of the Force. As their skill grew, so did controversy. Some of the Jedi who originally used the Bogan rose up, initiating the Force Wars of Tython. The result was the formation of a group of Dark Jedi who left the Order. The initial splitting of the Jedi was known as the First Great Schism.
In 7,000 BBY a Second Great Schism tore apart the Jedi Order once again. The results of this second split were the Hundred Year Darkness. The conflict was finally ended with the Battle of Corbos. The surviving Dark Jedi fled to Korriban and founded the Sith Empire.
By 5,000 BBY the Great Hyperspace War had begun between the Republic and the Sith. The Jedi immediately rallied and came to the aid of the Republic. Though the war was ended with the Republic emerging victorious, the Dark Lord Naga Sadow was able to escape.
A Third Great Schism occurred in 4,250 BBY. This time the war was fought on the Republic capital planet of Coruscant. Eventually the ambitions of the Dark Jedi led them to their own defeat and the war was ended. Though the Third Great Schism shook the Jedi Order, it was not until the Mandalorian Wars that the Jedi began to lose strength.
Disorder and conflict amongst the Jedi ranks emerged as the Mandalorian Wars were fought between the Mandalorians and the Republic. For reasons of their own the Jedi Council forbid any Jedi to aid the Republic. Despite the Council's ruling, a few young Jedi aided the Republic, most importantly the Jedi Revan. With the help of these Jedi the Mandalorians were crushed. As the war ended Revan and a Jedi named Malak left the Jedi Order.
Revan and Malak found the planet Korriban. In an effort to gain power, Revan and Malak began to rebuild a Sith Empire of their own design. Once they had grown to a sufficient strength Revan and Malak returned to the Jedi, sparking the Jedi Civil War. The attacks led by Revan and Malak became even more complex as Malak turned on Revan. Revan escaped Malak's plot, and in turn destroyed Malak. As the war ended Revan found himself changed and once again sided with the Jedi. Revan then disappeared as he set out to investigate rumors of a mysterious threat to the Republic.
Although Revan did not return from his mission. The true Sith Empire, rebuilt by the last Sith Emperor who had escaped the Great Hyperspace War, suddenly made an appearance. The surprise attack caught both the Republic and Jedi off guard. The capital planet of Coruscant was sacked, and the Jedi Temple destroyed. Faith in the Jedi was lost. The Jedi returned to their homeworld of Tython to rebuild their Temple and their reputation.
